Terms of Service

By creating an account or using the Stoneclough Council & Business Hub, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully.
1. Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Stoneclough Community Council ("SCC", "we", "us", or "our") governing your access to and use of the Stoneclough Council & Business Hub platform (the "Service").
By accessing or using the Service, you confirm that you are at least 16 years of age and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
2. The SCC Constitution
The Stoneclough Community Council operates under a formal Constitution that defines our purpose, governance, and membership structure.
Constitution Signing
To become a full member of the SCC and access member features, you must read and digitally sign the Constitution. By signing, you agree to:
- Uphold the values and objectives of the SCC
- Act in the best interests of the Stoneclough community
- Abide by decisions made democratically by the Council
- Treat all members and community residents with respect
Your signature on the Constitution is legally binding and forms part of the official SCC membership records.
3. Membership Tiers
The SCC offers the following membership tiers:

Membership benefits and features may change over time. We will notify members of significant changes.
4. Payments and Subscriptions
Subscription Terms
- Supporting Membership is billed monthly at £10.00
- Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled
- You may cancel at any time via your account dashboard
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period
Card Verification
We offer free card verification to confirm your identity. This process does NOT charge your card - it is used solely to verify you are a real person with a valid payment method. Verified Members gain additional platform privileges at no cost.
Refunds
Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by law or at our sole discretion. If you believe you have been charged in error, contact us within 14 days.
All payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your full payment card details.
5. Acceptable Use
When using the Service, you agree to:
- Provide accurate and truthful information
- Keep your account credentials secure
- Report genuine local issues in good faith
- Respect other users and community members
- Not submit false, misleading, or defamatory content
- Not use the Service for commercial spam or advertising
- Not attempt to access accounts or data belonging to others
- Not interfere with or disrupt the Service's functionality
- Comply with all applicable UK laws and regulations
6. Prohibited Content
You must not post, upload, or share content that:
- Is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, or harassing
- Is defamatory, libellous, or invades privacy
- Promotes discrimination based on race, religion, gender, disability, or other protected characteristics
- Contains personal information about others without consent
- Infringes intellectual property rights
- Contains malware, viruses, or harmful code
- Is sexually explicit or exploitative
- Promotes violence or illegal activities
We reserve the right to remove any content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
7. Business Directory
If you list a business on the SCC Business Directory:
- You warrant that you have authority to represent the business
- All information provided must be accurate and up-to-date
- You are responsible for maintaining your listing
- We may remove listings that are inactive, inaccurate, or violate these Terms
- Business listings are subject to approval by SCC administrators
8. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, features, and content (excluding user-generated content), is owned by or licensed to the SCC and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
By submitting content to the Service (such as issue reports, business listings, or comments), you grant the SCC a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display, and share that content in connection with the Service and the SCC's community objectives.
You retain ownership of your original content and may request its removal at any time.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
We do not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
- Any defects will be corrected
- The results of using the Service will meet your requirements
- Issue reports will result in action by local authorities
The SCC is a community organisation, not a government body. We advocate on behalf of residents but cannot guarantee outcomes from councils or other authorities.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the SCC and its officers, volunteers, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.
Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £100, whichever is greater.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death, personal injury, or fraud.
11. Account Termination
By You: You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Upon closure, your access to member features will be revoked.
By Us: We may suspend or terminate your account if you:
- Violate these Terms or the SCC Constitution
- Engage in fraudulent or harmful behaviour
- Fail to pay subscription fees (for Supporting Members)
- Are inactive for more than 24 months
We will provide notice before termination where reasonably possible, except in cases of serious violation.
12. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
13. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a notice on the Service at least 30 days before the changes take effect.
Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you must stop using the Service and close your account.
